So far, webmasters who want to earn rely on payment gateways (or merchant account providers). They have proven to be reliable so far, and their set-up works. Right now I’m trying eMerchantPay, I like the set up.
The answer is this: it depends on their needs.
Most web developers don’t have a true merchant account because their clients prefer to pay by check or can pay by check if necessary.
Since having a merchant account also entails paying monthly fees many webmasters will only want to have one if they find they have either a high demand from their customers or have a business model that requires it (recurring billing, etc.)
For the webmasters who don’t have a merchant account Paypal makes for a suitable solution for accepting payments when necessary.
