Are you using a credit card machine or a online gateway?

If you are using a machine, sounds like you need an updated machine. Most older equipment will not support the level of memory needed to process more than 4-5 cards before its memory gets blown. These machines are Tranz 330, Zon Jr XL, Tranz 380, Tranz 460, etc...

If you are using an online gateway to process cards through your website or a virtual terminal. Sounds like they do not have a backup server, or there servers arent connected. You need a processor who has more than one server and their servers automatically roll to the next one if one goes down. That will help to ensure no down time for you.
