Nothing is fail-safe. I would assume merchant account providers are more secure though given that their business relies upon security. What can be vulnerable are the websites that are using the merchant accounts. If they don’t use proper encryption where they are supposed to or not. Sensitive information could be transmitted without encryption. Or worse, the website holds credit card information in user profiles and has poor security and is hacked into.

There is a loophole around everything & some are happy to take advantage of them. I wouldn’t trust the internet with my life!
