The biggest difference is a private merchant account is 100% your responsibility. It’s your credit on the line so if you have chargeback issues and/or fail to pay your fees the repercussions can be great. With Paypal/Google Checkout you are in essence sharing their merchant account. So if you have similar issues the worst thing they can do is shut you down and hold your money.
