I heard about them through a visit at my local Costco. They leased me a swipe machine and I use it regularly. It was really simple to set up. I pay about $25/month to lease the machine and I also pay about 1.7% on all of my transactions. I don't know of any free services, but if one exists, I'd certainly be interested in hearing about it.
